BATON ROUGE — LSU right side hitter Marina Skender was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week after the Tigers went 1-1 on the road last week.

The native of Zagreb, Croatia led the Tigers to a 3-0 win over Georgia on the road, recording the first win over the Bulldogs in Athens since 2001. She led the match with 15 kills, the most kills in a three-game match for LSU this season, while ranking second on the team with a .444 hitting percentage, the fourth-best hitting mark on the team this year.

Against No. 4 Florida, she tied for the second most kills on the team and fourth most in the match. She also ranked third on the team with nine digs against the Gators. For the week, she led the team in points, kills and kills per game and ranked second in hitting percentage, blocks and blocks per game.

For the season, she ranks third on the team in with a .283 hitting percentage, 178 kills, 2.44 kills per game, 64 blocks and 0.88 blocks per game.

This is the second SEC Freshman of the Week honor for her this season and the third SEC Freshman of the Week honor for the Tigers this year. On the season, LSU athletes have been honored by the conference a total of seven times, including two SEC Player of the Week honors and two SEC Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The Tigers return to action this weekend at home against Auburn and Alabama. LSU will face AU on Friday at 7 p.m. before hosting the SEC West leading Crimson Tide on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
