BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team is looking to end its two-game Southeastern Conference losing streak Sunday as it goes on the road to take on the Auburn Tigers at the Auburn Soccer Complex in a match at 2 p.m.
LSU (6-6-2, 2-4-1 SEC) is in position to earn a berth in the SEC Tournament for the first time since 2002 as it currently sits in eighth place in the SEC standings with seven points. The Tigers are 4-7 all-time against Auburn (5-8-1, 4-3 SEC) with its last victory being a 1-0 shutout in Baton Rouge on Oct. 15, 2000.
The Tigers are coming off of a tough loss at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide on Friday night by the score of 3-1 with senior forward Stacie McDougall scoring the first goal of her LSU career in the 58th minute of play.
Auburn defeated Arkansas on Friday in thrilling fashion by the score of 2-1 with the game-winning goal being scored by midfielder Jada Stewart in the second overtime period. Stewart has been credited with one goal and one assist on the season, while her twin sister Kristin leads the team with four goals, two assists and 10 points in 2005.
LSU must take advantage of the Auburn defense to be successful as the Tigers on the Plains rank eighth in the SEC with a 1.22 goals against average. Auburn is also 10th in the SEC in points allowed per game (3.79) and shots allowed per game (13.64), as well as 11th in shots on goal allowed per game (7.36).
After returning to Baton Rouge, LSU will travel to take on the 18th-ranked Florida Gators on Friday at 7 p.m. followed by a home match against the South Carolina Gamecocks on Oct. 23 at 1 p.m.
