BATON ROUGE — The LSU Marketing and Promotions Department invites fans to join the LSU soccer team for “Soccer Rocks” on Friday when the Tigers take on the Georgia Bulldogs at 7 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex.
The event is sponsored by Student Government and features a live concert by popular student band Lazy K on the practice field adjacent to the stadium immediately following the game. Lazy K has been described by many as “one of Baton Rouge’s premier party rock bands.”
“This is certainly our biggest promotion of the year,” said Lee De Leon, a member of the marketing and promotions staff. “We’ve invested a lot of time and money into bringing in a great band and turning the practice field at the Soccer Complex into a great concert venue.
“The point of ‘Soccer Rocks’ is to have a night of great soccer and musical entertainment. In addition to the post-game concert, there will also be an acoustic set on the stadium field during halftime.”
More than 600 students were in attendance for LSU’s match against Ole Miss on Friday in the third-annual “Cram the Complex” promotion, and De Leon said they are the primary target for “Soccer Rocks.” The student section has been dubbed “The Lee-gion” by the marketing and promotions department in honor of first-year LSU head coach Brian Lee.
“We had over 600 students here for the last game, and they really made it a great environment for college soccer,” De Leon said. “They were loud and rowdy, and they can really make the LSU Soccer Complex a difficult place for opponents to play.
“This is revolutionary marketing for women’s soccer,” De Leon said. “I’ve worked in the marketing department at Notre Dame and Texas A&M, and neither school has done anything like this. Notre Dame is the defending national champion, and Texas A&M was the national leader in attendance last season. That says a lot for what we’re trying to do. We hope it pays off and we have another great crowd at the LSU Soccer Complex on Friday.”
Friday is also Youth Group Night in which all church youth groups and group leaders receive free admission to the game courtesy of The Advocate. Any youth group interested in attending the game is free to call De Leon at 225-578-6884 for more information.
