Advisory: No Class Monday; Parking & Traffic in Focus

BATON ROUGE — LSU officials have issued the following advisory to Tiger fans regarding the Monday night football game between LSU and Tennessee in Tiger Stadium beginning at 6:30 p.m.

“This is the first Monday night game in the modern era of LSU football, so it is hard to know what to expect from a weekday game,” said LSU athletics director Skip Bertman.  “Some of our normal procedures will change for this game because we have to be mindful of the local community, so I am hopeful our fans will be tolerant of these special circumstances.”

Classes on the LSU campus will not be in session on Monday due to anticipated after-effects of Hurricane Rita, including clean-up procedures, anticipated arrival of special-needs evacuees to the Carl Maddox Field House and contingent use of other nearby facilities.

Fans are advised that clean-up procedures may be on-going throughout the day and are asked to delay arrival until mid-afternoon or later.

Because the game will be on a weekday, traffic flow into campus will be affected.  Before the game, there will be no one-way in-bound traffic routes, and fans should be aware that normal weekday Baton Rouge rush hour traffic should be considered in their plans for going to the campus.

After the game, one-way out-bound traffic will be very limited. Only Dalrymple Drive, Highland Road and St. Phillip Street will be available for one-way traffic departing campus after the game.

LSU anticipates that many of the personnel who normally patrol football game day traffic may be called upon for other duties pertaining to the aftermath of Hurricane Rita, so traffic control may be affected.  Fans should take this into consideration when making plans to travel to campus. Police officers will be on duty in intersections to help direct traffic.

The rain from Hurricane Rita will determine the availability of many of the grass parking lots on campus, and LSU officials will determine the potential use of those lots on Sunday.

A portion of parking Lot O, in front of the LSU Natatorium, will be unavailable because it is still being used for parking associated with the Special Needs Shelter at the Carl Maddox Field House.  Overflow parking for Lot O will be in Lot W on Skip Bertman Drive.

There will be no free automobile parking permitted in the lot across the street from the School of Veterinary Medicine on Skip Bertman Drive.  LSU has designated that lot for motor home parking for the 2005 season in response to requests from fans who cannot find hotel lodging for games.

All motor home owners are reminded that LSU classes are in session beginning Tuesday morning, so LSU asks that all motor homes depart campus lots by 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

The LSU Athletic Ticket Office will be closed Saturday, but will be open beginning at noon on Sunday until 6 p.m.  It will be open on Monday from 8 a.m. until halftime of the game.

For ticket holders who lost or do not have access to their tickets due to Hurricane Katrina or Hurricane Rita, the ticket holder of record can present his or her ID at the ticket office to have their tickets replaced.

LSU fans are urged to check your local news media and LSU’s website, www.LSUsports.net, for updated information on parking, traffic and other access issues as they pertain to Monday night’s game.
