BATON ROUGE — LSU spent part of its practice indoors on Wednesday as the third-ranked Tigers tried to beat the heat and humidity in preparation for Saturday’s home-opener against 10th-ranked Tennessee in Tiger Stadium.
Kickoff for the LSU-Tennessee contest is set for 6:45 p.m. The game will be broadcast to a national audience by ESPN.
Wednesday’s practice had the Tigers starting indoors for their pre-practice walk-thru, before heading outside for special teams work and individual drills. The Tigers then returned inside for the last hour and a half of practice.
“We had a good practice,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “The players are rounding into shape. We had good tempo today and the speed of the practice was what we were looking for.
“The game plan is in place. We just need to polish up a few things and then we’ll be ready to go.”
Miles said the Tigers have worked the week preparing for the possibility of rain on Saturday. Part of that preparation has been the “wet ball” drill where the quarterbacks throw a football that has been soaked in water. In addition, the quarterback-center exchange this week has also been practiced with the “wet ball” as well.
“We’ve worked some with the wet ball this week,” Miles said. “We’re trying to get our quarterbacks, running backs and receivers ready to handle the ball if it’s wet.”
The Tigers will return to practice on Thursday with a light workout followed by a walk thru on Friday afternoon.
