BATON ROUGE — LSU beat the rain on Friday as the third-ranked Tigers worked out for just over two hours here at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility as they began to prepare for next week’s matchup against fourth-ranked Tennessee in Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers will have a light workout on Saturday morning before taking Sunday off. LSU will resume its game-week schedule on Monday with a night practice.

“We had a good workout,” LSU coach Les Miles said following Friday’s practice. “The tempo was what you want for an off week. We even had a chance to let some of the younger guys scrimmage.”

Miles said he’s confident that the Tigers have made the necessary corrections on both sides of the ball heading into the Tennessee game.

“I think the issues that we had to address beyond the game have been addressed,” Miles said. “I think those things are corrected finally with the play in games. It’s tough to call until we step on the field and do it.”

Against Tennessee, Miles said the Tigers will face a squad that has talent spread across the board.

“I think they are a very talented team,” Miles said. “They have all the characteristics of a nationally ranked team. They have a good offensive line, a terribly talented tailback, good skill guys, and a quarterback who throws the ball well.

“On defense, they have good linemen, real mobile athletic linebackers, a quality secondary and they’re good in special teams.”
