Soccer Looks For Fourth-Straight Win; Tulane Match Cancelled

BATON ROUGE — The LSU soccer team (3-2-0) puts its three-game winning streak on the line Tuesday when in-state opponent McNeese State (2-4-0) of the Southland Conference comes to the LSU Soccer Complex for a match at 7 p.m.

The Tigers are 4-1 all-time against the Cowboys and 22-3-1 against teams from the Southland Conference. LSU shutout McNeese State, 7-0, in the last meeting between the two schools on Sept. 2, 2003.

LSU has posted a shutout in each of its last three matches behind the play of freshman goalkeeper Jackie Moseley, who has improved her record to 3-1 on the season during the streak. This marks the longest such streak for the Tigers since recording six-straight shutouts in the 2002 season.

The Tigers are coming off their best offensive performance of the season by defeating Jackson State, 4-0, on Sunday. Junior forward Joleen Phillips scored two goals and sophomore midfielder Caroline Vanderpool tied the LSU single-game record with three assists in the win.

Phillips leads the team and is tied for third in the Southeastern Conference with four goals and nine points. Her average of 1.80 points per game ranks second in the SEC behind only Libby Probst of Alabama.

Tuesday’s match will be “School is Kicking” Night at the LSU Soccer Complex, in which students of all ages receive free admission to the game and a free LSU soccer pencil. After their match against McNeese State, the Tigers will return to action against Birmingham Southern on Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. at the BSC Soccer Park in Birmingham, Ala.

LSU’s home match scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. against Tulane has been cancelled and no make-up date has been determined. Stay tuned to LSUsports.net for further updates.
