Kuzmic Named MVP of Georgia Southern Tournament

BATON ROUGE — Senior Ivana Kuzmic was named the Most Valuable Player of the Georgia Southern Invitational, while senior Jelena Mijatovic and junior Lauren Leaumont were named to the all-tournament team, after LSU volleyball posted a 3-0 tournament record, it was announced late Saturday night.

Against Campbell, Kuzmic was 12 for 13 on attacking attempts without an error for a .923 hitting percentage, breaking the LSU single-match record. In addition, that mark is tied for 22nd in NCAA single-match history.

The native of Split, Croatia, also led or tied for the match lead in blocks in all three LSU matches on the week. For the season, she is averaging 3.00 kills per game with a .630 hitting percentage and 1.40 blocks per game.

Mijatovic is currently averaging 5.60 kills per game with a .306 hitting percentage and 2.80 digs per game. After ranking fourth in the NCAA in service aces per game last season, the Belgrade, Serbia, native posted 13 service aces in three matches to start the season for a 1.30 ace per game average.

Leaumont led the team in digs and digs per game on the weekend, posting 33 digs for a 3.30 digs per game average. In addition, she ranks second on the team with 3.10 kills per game. The junior from New Orleans, who missed most of the last 14 matches of last season after spraining her ankle against
Alabama, returned to her freshman form, when she led the team in digs and ranked second in kills.
The Tigers return to action next weekend at the Georgia State Invitational in Atlanta. LSU will face the host Lady Panthers on Friday at 5 p.m. (CST) before facing Jacksonville State and Wright State on Saturday at noon and 4 p.m. (CST) respectively.
