STRATFORD, Conn. — LSU softball catcher Killian Roessner was named a second-team All-American as part of the famed Stratford Brakettes after her team finished second in the 2005 National Women’s Major Fast Pitch Championship, as announced by the Amateur Softball Association.
The sophomore-to-be from Manasquan, N.J., helped guide her team to the 74th annual ASA Women’s Fast Pitch national championship game for the second consecutive year, winning in 2004, before falling to the California Hurricanes this summer.
The four-day tournament featured 13 teams from around the nation. The Brakettes did not allow a run in their first three tournament games, outscoring opponents, 29-0, before falling to the Hurricanes, 1-0 in eight innings, to fall into the loser’s bracket. After defeating Storm USA, 3-1, the Brakettes fell to the Hurricanes for the second time, 3-2, on a pair of unearned runs in the championship game.
Roessner was a member of a team that included four former All-Americans, including 2005 National Player of the Year and 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist Cat Osterman of Texas. Also on her team were former Georgia All-American Kim Wendland, former Texas A&M-Corpus Christi All-American Sarah Pauly and former Florida State All-American Leslie Malerich. The most well known name to LSU fans on the Hurricanes is Tennessee All-American Monica Abbott.
