Alley Broussard Lost for Season with Knee Injury

BATON ROUGE — LSU junior running back Alley Broussard will miss 2005 season after suffering an injury to his right knee during a short scrimmage on Saturday.

Broussard, a preseason second-team All-Southeastern Conference selection going into 2005, rushed for a team-best 867 yards and 10 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2004. Broussard set the LSU single-game record with 250 yards rushing last year against Ole Miss.

“I feel really bad for Alley,” LSU coach Les Miles said. “He worked so hard this summer and put himself in a position to have a great fall.

“I’m disappointed for Alley as well as the entire team. We were really looking forward to seeing him in the backfield this fall. This now creates an opportunity for Justin (Vincent) and Shyrone (Carey) to step up and get some additional carries.”

Joining Vincent and Carey in the backfield for the Tigers is senior Joseph Addai. Addai has rushed for 1,666 yards and nine touchdowns in his career with the Tigers.
