BATON ROUGE — Former Lady Tiger great Muna Lee helped Team USA to a world-leading mark in the women’s 4×100-meter relay Friday as qualifying round competition got underway at the IAAF World Championships.
Running the relay’s second leg, Lee teamed with Angela Daigle, Me’Lisa Barber and Lauryn Williams to blow by the competition in 42.16 seconds. The time bettered the previous world leading mark of 42.65 set by Daigle, Lee, Williams and LaTasha Colander in July.
In the field, fellow former Lady Tiger Laverne Eve breezed through qualifying round action in the javelin. Eve threw for a season-best 200-6 to advance to Sunday’s final.
Back on the runway was former Tiger Walter Davis. A day after winning the triple jump world championship, Davis returned to competition in the long jump. Davis, who was nursing a sore heel from Thursday’s competition, missed advancing to the finals after jumping just 24-4 1/4 in the prelims.
Action from the World Championships and Olympic Stadium continues Saturday.
