Former Tiger Francique Advances at World Championships

HELSINKI, Finland — Former Tiger Alleyne Francique advanced through the first-round heats of the men’s 400 meters Tuesday as action from the IAAF World Championships continued from Olympic Stadium.

Francique, competing for his native Grenada, finished third in his heat, and 16th overall, after posting a time of 45.77 seconds. By virtue of his finish, Francique will move onto Wednesday’s semifinals where he will run out of lane one in heat one.

Also in action was former Tiger decathlete Claston Bernard. The 2002 NCAA champion turned in three solid events before pulling out of the competition. Bernard’s top effort of the day came in a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (10.79). He also placed 16th in the shot put (44-10 3/4) and 20th in long jump (22-3 3/4).

Competition from the World Championships continues Wednesday morning.
