BATON ROUGE — First-year coach LSU Les Miles welcomes 105 players to campus on Saturday as the sixth-ranked Tigers begin preparations for the season-opener on Sept. 3 against North Texas.
The Tigers, who are coming off a 9-3 season a year ago, return 10 starters on offense and another seven on defense from a squad that played in a January bowl game for the fourth straight season in 2004.
Among the list of headliners reporting to camp on Saturday include four returning starters from an offensive line considered one of the best in the nation. Among the returning starters on offense include preseason All-America tackle Andrew Whitworth, running backs Alley Broussard and Joseph Addai and wide receivers Dwayne Bowe, Craig Davis and Skyler Green.
Defensively, tackles Kyle Williams and Claude Wroten, both preseason All-America selections, return to anchor a Tiger defense that ranked among the best in the nation in 2004. Other key returnees on defense for LSU include safety LaRon Landry, linebackers Kenneth Hollis and Cameron Vaughn and cornerback Ronnie Prude.
Saturday’s schedule has the Tigers being issued equipment, going through a physical examination as well as participating in a school seminar and a compliance session. The day will be capped off with a team meeting.
LSU hits the practice field for the first time on Sunday when the squad will workout at 9 a.m. at the Charles McClendon Practice Facility.
