Diving’s Saucier Qualifies for U.S. National Championships

DALLAS — LSU diver Hali Saucier qualified for the United States Diving National Championships on Friday with an impressive 1-meter score at the U.S. Zone C Midwest Championships in Dallas, Texas.

Saucier, a native of Gig Harbor, Wash., took second place in the 1-meter springboard competition with a score of 418.50. The qualifying mark gave the junior-to-be a chance to compete at the U.S. National Championships, which take place Aug. 9-13 in Huntersville, N.C. Only the top three in the 1-meter event qualified for the prestigious event.

“It is a remarkable achievement for Hali,” said diving coach Doug Shaffer. “She competed well and earned her first qualification at the national level.”

Fellow teammate Andrew Keane also participated in Friday’s events, scoring a ninth-place finish in the men’s 3-meter springboard.

Saucier will compete in the 3-meter and platform competition this weekend at the Southern Methodist University campus. Saturday’s events get underway with the women’s 3-meter at 1 p.m. The top five divers in the 3-meter and platform advance to the national competition next month.
