BATON ROUGE — Southwood High School’s Cindee Wright had a big night on the all-star stage scoring 26 points to lead a second-half West comeback as the West downed the East, 76-69, in the Louisiana High School Coaches Association/Coca-Cola girls’ basketball game Thursday night at the F. G. Clark Activity Center on the Southern University campus.
Wright was named the Nokia Sugar Bowl Most Outstanding Player in a near unanimous vote of the media, marking the second straight year a player from the Shreveport school has scored the MOP trophy.
Wright hit 10-of-14 field goals with nine boards and four assists in 19 minutes. The only blemish on the game line was a six-of-13 night at the free throw line.
The West also got 20 points from Deidra Jackson of Amite and 15 points and 10 rebounds from Sierra Bush of Lakeview. The East was paced by the 15 points of Lottie Moore of West Monroe and the 14 points and game-high 13 rebounds of Amber Eugene of Destrehan.
The East had a 37-33 halftime advantage in the game. The win by the West stopped a five-game winning streak for the East and gives the West an 18-14 overall advantage in the series.
