BATON ROUGE — Top names in the history of Louisiana sports will be showcased when Cox Sports Television broadcasts a one-hour recap of the 2005 induction weekend of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame beginning Tuesday night at 9 p.m.
In Baton Rouge, CST is on cable channel 37.
Lyn Rollins of Cox Sports Television and Kent Lowe, the Vice-President of the presenting Louisiana Sports Writers Association host the show, which originates from the Hall of Fame site in Natchitoches. Not only will highlights from the recent induction ceremony be shown, but also interviews with inductees, a look at the activities of the weekend and special segments detailing the past and future for the Hall.
Eight athletes were inducted including two athletes in their first year of eligibility to the hall: former LSU women’s basketball coach Sue Gunter and former LSU and major league baseball all-star Albert Belle of Shreveport. Also in the induction class were former Lady Techster Janice Lawrence Braxton, LSU basketball star Durand “Rudy” Macklin, NFL All-Pros Mark Duper and Hoyle Granger, Canadian Football League Hall of Famer Tommy Hinton and horse racing jockey Randy Romero.
This is the third year that Cox Sports Television has carried the one-hour show produced by the LSWA and presented by State Farm Insurance agents in Louisiana, notably: Jerry Anderson (Bossier City), Dale Bernard (Lake Charles), Tommy Chester (Arcadia), Trey Coker (Leesville), Chip Cooper (Baton Rouge), Bart Dornier (Metairie), Gene Haymon (Leesville), Ronnie Johns (Sulphur), Dave McCarty (Lake Charles), Carl Morrow (Baton Rouge), Mike Murphy (Natchitoches), Shawn Murphy (Jonesboro), Andy Payne (Many), Gregg Phillips (Ruston), Jim Pledger (Natchitoches), Tag Rome (Bossier City), Skip Russell (Ruston), Ben Tullos (Shreveport), Mickey Walker (Shreveport) and Buddy Wood (Many).
Following the initial showing Tuesday night, the broadcast will also be shown on Cox Sports Television on the following dates: Friday, July 15 (6 p.m.); Tuesday, July 19 (Noon); Thursday, July 21 (8 p.m.); Wednesday, July 27 (10 p.m.); Friday, July 29 (6 p.m.); Thursday, Aug. 4 (8:30 p.m.); and, Tuesday, Aug. 9 (9:30 p.m.).
