BATON ROUGE — Four LSU media guides for the 2004-05 seasons have earned national awards with two more earning region honors, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA).
The Tiger softball guide earned the highest national honor, finishing second in the nation behind Fresno State in Division A for NCAA Division I schools out of a total of 47 entries. Associate Sports Information Director Melissa Reynaud, Publications Director Jason Feirman and David Hurd of the publications office were responsible for the guide.
The LSU men’s and women’s track guide finished third nationally behind a pair of Tennessee media guides. The combined guide earned the ranking out of a total of 51 entries after finishing first in District VI (Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas). The publication was written and edited by Associate SID Laurie Cannon, with publication assistance from Feirman and student assistant Krystal Bennett.
The Lady Tiger women’s basketball guide was also voted best in District VI and selected sixth in the nation out of 75 total entries. LSU finished behind national winner Tennessee, Kansas State, Arizona, Arizona State and Kansas. Associate SID Brian Miller, Feirman and former publications assistant Annie Martin produced the media guide.
The Tiger volleyball media guide earned the final national honor for LSU. The publication was ranked seventh in the nation and the top guide from the SEC out of 77 entries, and selected second in District VI behind Texas A&M. The Tiger publications ranked behind national winner Nebraska, Texas A&M, Kansas State, Penn State, USC and Notre Dame. Reynaud, Bennett and publications student Peter Hoang were responsible for the publication of the guide.
In addition to the four national honors, two media guides earned regional honors. The LSU baseball guide finished third in District VI behind Texas and Baylor. That guide is a production of Associate SID Bill Franques, Hurd and Martin. The men’s golf guide earned a fourth place ranking in District VI behind the Texas A&M women, Mississippi State and Texas A&M men’s guides. Sports Information student Will Stafford wrote and edited the guide with publication assistance from Feirman and Bennett.
The awards will be presented at the group’s annual convention next week in Philadelphia.
