SAVANNAH, Ga. — LSU women’s golfer Alexis Rather continues her roll through the championship flight of the Women’s Southern Golf Association Amateur Championship Wednesday at The Landings Club of the Deer Creek Course.
Rather, a sophomore on the LSU team from Tupelo, Miss., upset the seventh seed in the round of 16 match, Stephanie Godare of Houston Texas, 5 and 4. Rather was the 10th seed in the qualifying round for the 32-player championship flight.
Rather will now meet in the quarterfinals Laura McCaslin of Cookeville, Tenn., McCaslin, the 31st seed, has knocked off second seed Karen Ferree of Hilton Head, S. C., and 15th seed Charlotte Campbell, 2 and 1, in the round of 16.
The quarterfinals and semifinal rounds will both be played on Thursday to set up a 36-hole championship match on Friday.
Another LSU golfer, Rebecca Struthers of Baton Rouge, won her first round match in the first flight, defeating Susan Rampelberg of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., 3 and 2.
