Tigers Travel to Georgia as SEC Road Trip Continues

Five Softball Tigers Named to LSWA All-Louisiana Teams

BATON ROUGE — Five Tigers were named to the All-Louisiana first and second teams, as announced by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association on Sunday.

Outfielder Camille Harris and designated player Lauren Castle earned first-team honors, while pitcher Emily Turner, first baseman Stephanie Hill and second baseman Vanessa Soto were named to the second team.

A second-team All-Southeastern Conference and All-South Region selection, Harris broke the LSU single season record for hit by pitches and ranked in the top 10 in the NCAA in that category. In addition, the junior from Hendersonville, Tenn., ranked in the top 10 in the SEC in on base percentage, runs scored, walks and stolen bases.

For the season, she hit .338 with 47 runs scored, seven doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 18 RBIs with 21 stolen bases. She recorded 13 multiple-hit games and three multiple-RBI games. Against South Carolina, she knocked in the game-winning run on a home run in the top of the eighth inning.

A first-team All-South Region selection, Castle tied for the team lead in batting average and led the Tigers in hits. She ranked sixth in the SEC in doubles and tied for the team lead with 19 multiple-hit games and six multiple-RBI games. The junior from Lafayette broke the LSU single-game record with a 5-for-5 performance against Mississippi State.

For the season, she hit .367 with 62 hits, 26 runs, 14 doubles, two triples, one home run and 25 RBIs. She recorded the second-best overall hitting streak on the team at eight games. Against Mississippi State and Ohio, she tied the LSU single-game record with four runs scored.

Ranking in the top 10 in the SEC in wins, opponents batting average, innings pitched, strikeouts and strikeouts looking, Turner was also a second-team All-SEC selection. The sophomore from Chula Vista, Calif., posted three wins over nationally ranked teams on the season and recorded five double-figure strikeout performances, including a career-best 14 against Columbia.

Between April 7 and April 16, she threw 26 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run. She threw a complete-game two-hitter and four complete-game three-hitters on the year, and went 3-0 against Louisiana teams.

A member of the SEC All-Tournament team, Hill recorded a .367 average with 62 hits, 26 runs, 12 doubles, seven home runs and 33 RBIs on the season. The junior from Harahan tied for the team lead in batting average and ranked fourth in the SEC in doubles in league games.

For the season, she recorded 19 multiple-hit games and six multiple-RBI games and had the second-best fielding percentage by a first baseman in the SEC. Against Kentucky, Arkansas and No. 16 Florida, she knocked in the game-winning runs.

Ranked in the top 30 in the NCAA in doubles per game, Soto tied for second in the SEC in doubles. She also led the team in doubles and RBIs on the season. For the year, she hit .306 with 63 hits, 24 runs, 16 doubles, one triple, four home runs and 39 RBIs.

The freshman from San Diego, Calif., recorded 16 multiple-hit games and led the team with 10 multiple-RBI games. Against No. 16 Florida, she knocked in the game-winning run.

With five All-Louisiana selections, LSU ranked tied for first for the most selections on the first and second teams. The Tigers tied with UL-Lafayette for the most overall selections on the team, followed by Southern and Northwestern State with three each.
