Autery to Leave Post as Baseball Volunteer Coach

BATON ROUGE — LSU baseball volunteer coach Jody Autery will leave his post in the next few weeks to accept a position with a Baton Rouge financial advising firm.

“I’m grateful for the six years I’ve worked as an LSU coach, but I’m looking forward to spending more time with my wife and children,” Autery said. “I’d like to thank the LSU administration and all of our fans for the support they’ve given to me and my family.”

Autery said he plans to begin his new job in mid-July. He and his wife, Beth, are the parents of two-year-old triplets, Beau, Gracie and Faith. A 2001 LSU graduate, he earned a master’s degree in sports management in 2002.

Autery, 30, just completed his fourth season as LSU’s volunteer coach after working two seasons as a student assistant for the Tigers. Autery coached the LSU outfielders, and he served as the Tigers’ third-base coach. He also worked as director of the Smoke Laval Baseball Camp.

“We will certainly miss Jody, because he has meant so much to the program for six years,” said Laval, LSU’s head coach since 2002. “We wish him the best, and I know he will enjoy tremendous success in his new career.”

Autery coached four all-SEC outfielders during his LSU tenure — J.C. Holt, Jon Zeringue, Ryan Patterson and Nick Stavinoha. Zeringue and Patterson also earned first-team all-America recognition during their careers.

A native of Pine Hill, Ala., Autery was a pitcher at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn., where he helped lead his team to a runners-up finish at the 1995 NAIA College World Series. Autery also played tight end for the Cumberland football team.

Autery played baseball, football and basketball as a prep athlete at Catherine (Ala.) Academy, which captured two Alabama state football titles during his career. He won all-state football honors in 1992 and all-state baseball recognition in 1992 and ?93.
