Rain Closes ‘Dore’ on Series Opener; DH Set for Noon

NASHVILLE — Friday night’s Southeastern Conference series opener between No. 9 LSU and No. 25 Vanderbilt at Hawkins Field has been postponed due to the threat of severe weather in the Nashville area this evening. The teams will begin the first game of a doubleheader at noon on Saturday, followed by a second game 30 minutes following the completion of Game 1.

Both games will be nine-inning contests.

A steady rain fell for most of the day on the Vanderbilt campus and the threat of heavy rains is expected to continue into early Saturday morning.

The Tigers (29-13, 10-8 SEC) have won five straight conference games and sit in second place in the SEC Western Division standings, one game behind Alabama. The Commodores (28-12, 9-9) are four games back of league-leader Florida in the Eastern Division.

Ironically, in the meeting between the two foes last season, heavy rains in the Baton Rouge area postponed the series opener at Alex Box Stadium. LSU won two-extra inning games in a doubleheader the following day.
