Turner Named LSWA’s Softball Pitcher of the Week

BATON ROUGE — Jill Robertson of Louisiana-Lafayette and Emily Tuner of LSU earned Louisiana softball Player of the Week honors as announced Tuesday by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Robertson led Louisiana-Lafayette with a .455 batting average (5-for-11) during the Ragin Cajuns first ever sweep of Florida International in Miami. Robertson ended the weekend with two doubles, one triple and three RBI. She collected nine total bases in 11 at bats for a .818 slugging percentage. She struck out only once in 14 plate appearances and was four-for-six against reigning Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week Tiffany Ore.

Turner, who also earned Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, went 3-0 against Ole Miss last week in three complete-game appearances as the sophomore led LSU to its first SEC series sweep of the season. Turner allowed only one earned run in 21 innings for a 0.33 ERA, averaging eight strikeouts per game. She did not allow more than four hits in three appearances, including a two-hitter in her final game. Turner had 10 strikeouts, her fourth double figure strikeout performance of the season, in the final game against Ole Miss as she picked up the win in her last six appearances.
