Tiger Athletes Compete in Day Two of Texas Relays

AUSTIN, Texas — The LSU Track and field team finished the second day of competition at the 78th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium Thursday.

“Well primarily the athletes who ran today ran times close to their personal best on a very windy day,” said LSU track and field head coach Dennis Shaver. “In my mind they have definitely made an improvement, so I feel pretty good about that.

Katie Denton finished ninth in the women’s 5000-meter run with a time of 17:40.98, while Drew Haro finished 17th in the men’s 5000-meters with a time of 14:43.42. The men’s 4×800-meter relay team finished tenth with a time of 7:36.54.

“We are really looking forward to getting on the track with the relays tomorrow,” said Shaver. “For the 100-meter relay teams, they will have an early start. Running at 9:30 in the morning is going to be a challenge especially after a long bus ride.”

Tomorrow’s action includes the preliminaries in the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays as well as the 100-meter dash and the 100 and 110-meter hurdles. LSU will also be competing in the sprint medley relays and several field events.

“It is going to be good to get our best relay teams on the track and competing against the good competition they have at the Texas Relays,” said Shaver.

The Tigers will be back in action starting tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. CST with the 4×100-meter relays.
