Lady Tigers Break from SEC to Face Purdue

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s tennis team travels to West Lafayette, Ind., to battle non-conference foe Purdue at 1 p.m. Wednesday looking for a much-needed win.

The contest begins a five-match road trip for the Lady Tigers that also takes them to Alabama, Auburn, Arkansas and in-state rival Tulane.

After falling to 7-9 (1-7 Southeastern Conference) on the season, head coach Tony Minnis knows his squad needs to play with its utmost effort to win this match.

“We really have to try to get back on track and that will take a lot of effort on our part,” he said. “We have to maintain our focus and play with a positive attitude.”

The Lady Tigers dropped two close contests last weekend to Ole Miss and Mississippi State and have lost six straight. Their last win came March 6 in a 4-3 upset over South Carolina.

Purdue carries a 5-9 (2-2 Big Ten) record into the contest, but the Boilermakers are in the midst of a season-best three-match winning streak after defeating both Long Beach State and Ohio State last weekend.

The Lady Tigers have won only one of five matches on the road this season, but they hold the advantage over Purdue in the all-time series, 4-1, including a 4-3 victory last year in Baton Rouge.
