BATON ROUGE — LSU sprinter Kelly Baptiste was named the SEC Women’s Runner of the Week it was announced Wednesday by the conference office. The honor marks the first of the freshman’s career.
Baptiste, a native of Tobago, won two golds and a silver over the weekend at the Carifta Games, an under 20 championship for the Caribbean nations.
Baptiste swept the short sprint events, winning the 100 meters with a personal best time of 11.39 and the 200 meters in 23.35. Both of her times rank as the best in the SEC this season and are currently listed at No. 2 in the country.
In addition, Baptiste ran a leg on Tobago’s 4×100-meter relay team that finished second with a time of 44.76.
