BATON ROUGE — LSU senior Lauren Companioni was named to the second annual SEC Gymnastics Good Works Team, it was announced Wednesday by the conference office.
The Tampa, Fla., native is a representative of the LSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee where she has been involved with numerous community service projects during her time in Baton Rouge.
The All-American has spoken to local elementary and high school students about the importance of academics and time management. She participated in the Alzheimer’s Services Capital Area “Walk/Run to Remember,” Steve Hood’s Total Dance Experience, a fundraiser benefiting the St. Jude Foundation, and visited the pediatric ward at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Hospital.
In addition, Companioni helped the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority host a pancake breakfast to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. She also answered phones at the local MDA telethon, participated in LSU’s annual Halloween BOO-zar, raised money and helped deliver presents for LSU’s Christmas Toy Drive, visited with residents at a local nursing home and participated in Baton Rouge’s Heart Walk and Cancer Walk/Run.
The SEC sponsors Good Works Teams for all 20 league sponsored sports. The Good Works Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to her community with superior service efforts.
