BATON ROUGE — For the second straight week, and the third time this season, LSU standout April Burkholder has been named the SEC’s Gymnast of the Week by the conference office. The honor is the seventh of her career.
A native of Houston, Texas, Burkholder was recognized after guiding the Tigers to a convincing 196.900-190.375 win over Centenary in the team’s home finale last Friday, securing LSU’s perfect 8-0 home slate this season. Burkholder won the all-around title for the sixth time this year, notching a 39.600 against the Ladies.
The four-time All-American also won three of the four individual events claiming titles on the vault (9.950), beam (9.900) and floor (9.900), while also finishing tied for fourth on the bars (9.825).
With the performance, Burkholder improved to No. 4 in the national all-around rankings. She is also listed among the country’s top 10 on the floor and vault as well as the top 25 on the bars and beam.
The second-ranked Tigers return to action this Saturday when they travel to Duluth, Ga., for the 2005 SEC Championships.
