BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Ryan Patterson and Tulane’s Brandon Gomes have been selected the Louisiana Baseball Players of the Week, as announced by the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association on Wednesday.

Patterson, an outfielder for the Tigers, was 8-for-17 last week with a .471 batting average in four games. The Rowlett, Texas, native hit one doubles, four home runs, scored nine runs, drove in seven runs and posted a 1.235 slugging percentage and .526 on-base percentage.

In LSU’s win over Western Illinois on Saturday, he went 3-for-4 with two home runs, four runs scored and two RBIs. He followed that up with two more home runs, three runs scored and four RBIs in the Tigers’ win over Arizona State on Sunday. For the weekend, he was 7-for-12 (.563) with four home runs and eight runs scored while knocking in seven runs.

Gomes went 1-0 with a save against a pair of top 5-ranked teams last week, with a 3.12 earned run average, while striking out six and walking one. Against No. 5 LSU, he scattered nine hits and a walk while striking out three and giving up two earned runs in five innings to earn the win.

Against No. 3 Cal State Fullerton, he came in with a runner on second and one out and get out of the jam. In three and two-thirds innings, he allowed one run on three hits while striking out three with no walks to earn his first career save.
