BATON ROUGE — The LSU Tigers were not in Atlanta for the championship game of the 2005 Southeastern Conference Tournament, but LSU was well represented on the five-member all-tournament team with two players, senior Antonio Hudson and sophomore Brandon Bass.
Hudson makes the team for the second time in his career, making it in his freshman and senior seasons. He becomes only the third LSU player in the history of the SEC Tournament to make the team more than once, joining Frank Brian (1943, 1947) and Joe Dean (1950, 1951, 1952) to make the tournament performance team multiple times.
Hudson scored 21 points in the quarterfinal win over Auburn, hitting 7-of-11 field goals, including 5-of-7 three-pointers to continue his strong record in the building. Against Kentucky in the classic overtime loss on Saturday in the semifinals, Hudson again had 21 points, hitting 7-of-14 field goals, including 4-of-8 trees to go with two assists and three steals in 42 minutes.
Hudson finishes his career with five 20-plus games in the SEC Tournament.
Bass had an 18-game double figure scoring streak stopped against Auburn in the quarterfinals, but he still led LSU in rebounds with nine. But the SEC Player of the year showed his toughness in the second half against Kentucky, after taking just one shot and having two points at the half, Bass finished with 16 points and 13 rebounds in 41 minutes of play.
Bass’ performance against Kentucky included a gutty 18-footer at the regulation buzzer that forced the overtime session in the 79-78 loss.
The two players on the all-tournament team marks the first time LSU has had multiple representation on the team since 1993.
