ATLANTA, Ga. — Senior Jessica Wantz’ 1-meter springboard performance on Saturday assured the senior a spot in next week’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships as day two of the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships came to a close from the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center.
Wantz, a native of Houston, Texas, dove an impressive mark of 567.70 in the finals to place fourth out of 42 participants.
“Jessica did a nice job and looks to have qualified for the NCAA Championships,” said diving coach Doug Shaffer. “We have another competition tomorrow, which gives us one more shot at qualifying for the NCAAs.”
While not officially announced until Sunday, the fourth-place finish virtually confirmed the three-time All-American of her third consecutive NCAA Championships appearance, which gets underway from West Lafayette, Ind., on March 17.
Hali Saucier, LSU’s highest women’s finisher on Friday, took ninth place in the 1-meter finals with a score of 532.50.
In the men’s 3-meter competition, freshman Niko Dalman tallied a score of 290.70 to end up in 19th. Sophomore Andrew Keane placed 29th with a score of 259.25.
The Zone B meet wraps up on Sunday with the men’s and women’s platform competitions, beginning at 11 a.m. ET.
