Fourth-Ranked Gymnasts Continue Road Trip at Texas Woman’s

DENTON, Texas — The fourth-ranked LSU gymnasts conclude their regular-season road meets with a trip to Texas Woman’s on Sunday at 3 p.m.

“I think we are looking at Sunday as another competition and another opportunity,” head coach D-D Breaux said.

The Tigers (12-3, 5-1 Southeastern Conference) are coming off their best performance of the season, notching a 197.850 in a win over Oklahoma on Friday.

They scored season-highs on three events, including a program-high on the beam with a 49.725. April Burkholder also won the all-around, notching two perfect 10s on the night on both vault and beam.

Texas Woman’s last performed in a quad meet at Arizona on Friday, coming away with a 192.700 mark that put them in third place.

LSU is 7-0 overall against Texas Woman’s, including a win in Denton last year. The Tigers scored a 197.100 in that meet.

Breaux said this meet will be a chance to give different members of the team a chance to compete in different events to add to LSU’s depth for post-season competition.

“We are going to give a lot of people an opportunity to compete so we can have everyone ready for SECs,” Breaux explained. “You have to know that everyone can hit and is consistent and that you have the right lineup in there at all times.”

This meet plus a home meet next Friday against Centenary will be the Tigers’ final tune-up before SEC Championships.
