COLUMBIA, S.C. — The ninth-ranked LSU men’s tennis team (10-2, 0-1 SEC) will look to even its conference record Sunday against South Carolina (10-3, 1-1 SEC) at 9 a.m.
The Tigers’ second loss of the season came Friday in their conference opener against Florida.
“We are looking to rebound form the Florida match and build on that experience,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “We will see what kind of character our team has. I think it’s strong but you have to test and retest yourself and create your own enthusiasm.”
The Gamecocks are not one of the seven Southeastern Conference teams in the top-25, but they fresh off a big win over Arkansas at home in their SEC opener.
“South Carolina is always a dangerous team no matter where they are in the rankings,” Brown said. “They may not be ranked high now, but any team in the SEC is likely to be in the top 25 or 30 by the end of the season.”
Several Tigers are hot coming into Sunday’s match. Current SEC men’s tennis Player of the Week Jason Hazley has won three doubles matches in a row with Danny Bryan on court two.
Mark Growcott and Ken Skupski, ranked fourth in the country, have also won their last three. LSU has lost the doubles point just once this season.
The Tigers lead the all-time series against South Carolina , 18-6. LSU won the last match between the two teams last year in Baton Rouge.
