BATON ROUGE — Members of several LSU athletics teams will participate in the inaugural “Kid’s Run for Life” at Pennington Biomedical Research Center on Saturday morning.
Representatives from the women’s soccer and volleyball teams, the gymnastics team, in addition to Lindsey Staak of the swimming team and Mallory McDonald of the women’s track team will be on hand to sign autographs and hand out awards to the participants.
The Kid’s Run for Life is an event open to children ages 4-18, featuring distances ranging from a half mile to two miles. The event is for the whole family and also features exhibits from Baton Rouge area groups promoting fun fitness year round.
Benefits from the Kid’s Run for Life, which is being co-sponsored by Pennington Biomedical Research Center and Club South Runners, will go to the physical education departments at each participant’s school. The school with the highest percentage of participation also receives a special cash prize.
The event is designed to introduce children to exercise while they still view it as fun and exciting. While the primary purpose is a running race, the larger purpose is to introduce families to different ways they can be healthy and active throughout the year.
