Track and Field Sends 11 to Iowa State for Last Chance Meet

BATON ROUGE — 11 members of the LSU track and field team will have one final opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships Saturday when they travel to Ames, Iowa for the NCAA Qualifying Meet.

Lady Tiger sprinters Kelly Baptiste and Brooklyn Morris will each try to advance national championships, scheduled for March 11-12 in Fayetteville, Ark., in the 200 meters. Both have reached NCAA provisional standards this season and will be seeking automatic marks.

Senior RaNysha LeBlanc will also take to the track in the 60-meter hurdles. She currently owns the 18th fastest time in event this season, having twice clocked a season-best 8.30.

For the Tigers, Austin Benton, Pete Coley and Marvin Stevenson will each run in the 400 meters, while Jeffrey Fisher will attempt to qualify in the 800 meters.

Senior LaToya Payne and sophomore Tina Harris will be seeking automatic berths in the long jump and the triple jump, respectively, while Tiger junior Gerald Taylor will participate in the long jump.

Senior Katie McKeever will be the lone thrower in the group. She will be seeking an automatic mark in the shot put after twice reaching provisional standards this season.
