FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Juniors Megan Akre and Dianne Harrison put the Lady Tigers on the scoreboard in the first day of competition at the SEC Indoor Championships Friday, finishing sixth and seventh respectively in the women’s pentathlon.
A strong performance by Akre in the final event of the day, the 800 meters, catapulted the Sugar Land, Texas, native into scoring position. Akre clocked a season-best 2:25.23 to finish with 3,621 points, a personal best total.
Harrison was just one point shy of her own personal best, tallying 3,580 points. Her performance was highlighted by a second-place showing in the shot put (41-1 1/2).
In the men’s pentathlon, sophomore Alleyne Lett turned in an impressive effort, recording a PR in the long jump and a seasonal best in the shot put, en route to 3,128 points and a fourth-place position in the standings after one day of competition.
“Alleyne has improved so much in the last few months,” said LSU head coach Dennis Shaver. “He had a good day today and he still has his best event yet to come with the hurdles.”
Lett’s most impressive performance came in the long jump where he provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a distance of 24-11 1/4. The mark, the best among the field, was an improvement of nearly a foot over his previous personal best.
Lett then added a second-place finish in the shot put, throwing 48-3 1/4.
Also in scoring position for the Tigers after a day of competition are sophomores Kwami Roberts and Gavin Fleming. Roberts sits in seventh with 2,841 points, while Fleming, who tied his seasonal best in the 60 meters (7.38) and had his best effort of the year in the long jump (22-5 3/4), stands in ninth with 2,732 points.
