Lady Tigers Remain No. 2, Tigers Up to No. 6 in Trackwire Rankings

Lady Tigers Stay No. 2, Tigers Slip to No. 8 in Track Rankings

BATON ROUGE — The Lady Tiger track and field team will head into this week’s SEC Championships as the top-ranked team in the conference as they remain No. 2 in the national standings for a seventh straight week according to the Trackwire 25 released Tuesday. The Tigers fell one spot to No. 8 this week.

Stanford remains atop the women’s standings for the third consecutive week. Miami is tied with the Lady Tigers in second, while SEC foes Tennessee and Georgia are fourth and fifth, respectively.

The SEC has four other women’s teams in the top 25 heading into the conference championships. Auburn comes in at No. 7, while South Carolina is eighth, Georgia is 18th and Arkansas in 21st.

On the men’s side, No. 1 Arkansas continues its reign at the top of the standings. Indiana is No. 2 and Michigan, Florida and Wisconsin all sit in a three-way tie for third.

Besides the Tigers, three other SEC teams find themselves in the top 25. Auburn is tied with the Tigers at No. 8, Ole Miss is No. 13 and Tennessee is No. 24.

In the individual event rankings, senior Hazelann Regis continues to hold onto her No. 1 spot in the 400 meters. She also anchors the Lady Tigers’ 4×400 relay that is again ranked No. 1 this week.

The Tigers are also ranked No. 1 in the 4×400 relay, lead by fourth-ranked quartermiler Kelly Willie.

Others among this week’s top 12 include Lady Tigers Neisha Bernard-Thomas (2nd, 800 meters), Ashley Owens (3rd, 60 meters) and Tina Harris (4th, long jump) and Tigers Xavier Carter (4th, 200 meters) and Willie Bradley (6th, triple jump).

The LSU track and field team returns to action this weekend when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., for the SEC Indoor Championships, Feb. 25-27.
