BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team climbed into the top 10 for the first time this season when the Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its national rankings on Tuesday.

The Tigers (9-1) were ranked 10th, up one spot fromt the previous week’s poll. Their rise in the rankings came after a 2-1 showing at the National Team Indoor Championships, where they beat now 12th-ranked Ohio State and Boise State.

Individual rankings were also released Tuesday. Mark Growcott and Ken Skupski were ranked fourth in the doubles poll, the highest of any Tiger doubles team since 2000. The mark comes on the heels of an upset over No. 1-ranked Ross Wilson and Scott Green of Ohio State last weekend.

Skupski moved up seven spots to fifth in the singles poll. That ranking is also the highest for an LSU player since Michael Chmela was ranked No. 1 in 2000. Skupski won three matches over ranked players in last week’s competition to extend his streak to 13 consecutive wins in a row.

Tiger senior Jason Hazley was also listed in both polls. Hazley was 95th in singles and 39th in doubles with sophomore Danny Bryan.

LSU will get a chance to further improve its ranking Saturday when they travel to face ninth-ranked Texas A&M at 1 p.m.
