PARRISH, Fla. — The LSU women’s golf team fired a second straight sub-300 round to finish in fourth place in the Central District Invitational tournament which wrapped up on Tuesday.
The 13th-ranked Lady Tigers posted a final day score of 10-over 298 to conclude the 54-holes over the River Wilderness Golf Club at 33-over par 897. LSU had rounds of 303-296-298.
Missouri was the team winner at 15-over 879 (292-295-292), followed by Arkansas two shots back (17-over 881 — 296-293-292). Baylor finished ahead of LSU in fourth at 28-over 892 (300-295-297) and Michigan rounded out the top five, finishing behind LSU at 35-over 899 (307-303-289).
The Lady Tigers were the defending champions of the event. This is the first event of the spring season for the LSU women’s team that will next play at the Lady Gamecock Invitational outside Columbia, S. C., March 11-13.
LSU had balanced scoring on the final day with Vicky Meyer posting an even par round of 72 for low honors for the day. Rebecca Kuhn posted a two-over 72 and Brooke Shelton, Kimberly Meck and Nicola Eaton all shot four-over 76.
Stacy Lewis of Arkansas (72-70-74) and Amy Schmucker of Michigan (74-72-70) shared individual honors at even par 216, one shot ahead of Arkansas’ Amanda McCurdy at one-over 217.
Meyer was the top finisher for LSU in 15th place at seven-over 223 (76-75-72), while Brooke Shelton (75-73-76) was one shot back at 224 in 16th place with Kuhn (76-75-74) and Meck (76-73-76), the two freshmen, tied for 19th place at 9-over 225.
“It was a decent start for us,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We were so close several times to really having an outstanding round. We look forward to now having a couple of weeks to work on the things we need to in preparation for our next event.”
