BATON ROUGE — LSU forward Brandon Bass was named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week by the league office in Birmingham for his play last week at Mississippi State and a home against Florida.
Bass led LSU to a 2-0 week, knocking off Mississippi State in Starkville and #24 (ESPN/USA Today) Florida to move into sole possession of second place in the SEC West.
The sophomore from Baton Rouge totaled 21 points and a career-high 17 boards at Mississippi State. He also shot 7-of-11 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line with three blocks and two steals. Bass followed that performance with a 27-point effort versus Florida, shooting 8-of-10 from the field and 10-of-13 from the free throw line.
Bass was named an ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and first team NABC All-District 8 selection last week.
This marks the second Player of the Week honor for Bass in less than a month, having been named the first time on Jan. 31. This marks the 10th time an LSU players has received this honor over the last 10 seasons.
