Men’s Basketball Campaign Wins Gold ADDY Award

BATON ROUGE — LSU Athletics was awarded a 2005 Gold ADDY at the Annual ADDY Awards show for an advertising campaign promoting the LSU Basketball team.

The ADDY Awards is the world’s largest advertising competition. LSU’s entry was awarded in the local Baton Rouge competition sponsored by The Advertising Federation of Greater Baton Rouge (AFGBR) on Saturday night.

The campaign, which was entered in the mixed media category, focused on LSU basketball players using outdoor billboards and newspaper advertisements. Each piece used a portrait photo of current basketball players Xavier Whipple, Brandon Bass, Darrel Mitchell, Antonio Hudson, Glen Davis, Ross Neltner, Darnell Lazare and Tack Minor.

The award was presented to LSU Assistant Director of Marketing, Guy Gaster and Publications Director Jason Feirman, and included photos taken by Feirman and photographer Steve Franz.

LSU was one of 71 Gold Award winners in the local competition. The AFGBR ADDY Awards, in its 51st year, recognizes elite advertising work created in the Greater Baton Rouge area. AFGBR is an organization that performs community service, provides scholarships and a variety of educational opportunities for area professionals as well as LSU and Southern University students. The organization consists of local professionals based in the fields of advertising, sales promotion, public relations, marketing, production and the buying or selling of advertising, and is an affiliate of the American Advertising Federation.

LSU’s winning entry along with all ADDY award winners will be on display this week at the Oculus Gallery located at 421 Third Street in downtown Baton Rouge. The display times are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a special Thursday night showing from 6-10 p.m.
