BATON ROUGE — The Lady Tiger track and field team held on to its No. 2 ranking for a sixth straight week, while the Tigers dropped two spots to No. 7 in the latest Trackwire 25 released Tuesday.
Stanford remains on top of the women’s standings for a second consecutive week, followed by the Lady Tigers, Miami, Tennessee and Florida.
Arkansas continues its dominance of the men’s rankings, holding on to No. 1 for a sixth straight week. Indiana and Michigan stay at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, while Florida moved up spots into a two-way tie with the Gators and Wisconsin rounds out the top five.
Led by top-ranked women’s quartermiler Hazelann Regis, the Lady Tigers’ 4×400 relay extended its streak at No. 1 to six weeks. In addition, senior Neisha Bernard-Thomas is ranked No. 2 in the 800 meters, sophomore Tina Harris in No. 3 in the long jump and freshman Ashley Owens is third in the 60 meters.
For the men, the 4×400 relay is also ranked No. 1 for a sixth consecutive week. That relay is anchored by Kelly Willie who is listed at No. 4 in the 400 meters standings. Other Tigers among the top 12 in their respective events include freshman Xavier Carter at No. 4 in the 200 meters and senior Willie Bradley at No. 6 in the triple jump.
After two weeks on the road the Tigers and Lady Tigers return to action Friday when they host their final home meet of the indoor season, the LSU Twilight, at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. Action begins at 3 p.m. with the field events. Running events follow at 6 p.m.
