GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Sophomore diver Hali Saucier earned her highest career SEC finish in the women’s 1-meter competition as day two of the 2005 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships came to a close at the O’Connell Center here on Saturday evening.
Saucier earned a seventh-place finish for the second consecutive day, scoring a mark of 256.00 in the 1-meter. The Gig Harbor, Wash. native placed seventh on Friday in the 3-meter competition.
Saucier had a terrific preliminary session, earning the third-highest point tally (266.95) out of the conference’s top 24 divers to qualify for the finals.
Senior Jessica Wantz just missed reaching the finals session after earning a score of 208.85 in the prelims. Kentucky’s Taryn Ignacio won the event with a victorious mark of 296.40.
Niko Dalman was the Tigers’ highest men’s finisher on the day, finishing 16th in the 3-meter (425.25). Andrew Keane placed 20th with a score of 410.00, while Georgia’s Chris Cowill amassed a score of 627.30 to capture top honors.
The diving portion of the championships concludes tomorrow with the women’s platform prelims getting underway at 10:30 a.m. ET. The men’s competition is slated to begin at 1 p.m. ET, followed by finals sessions of both events at 3 p.m. ET.
