BATON ROUGE — The LSU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is sponsoring a talent show on Sunday, Feb. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Cox Communications Center for Student-Athletes to benefit the Robyn DesOrmeaux donation fund.
Tickets for the event are $3 in advance and $5 at the door if still available. The women’s soccer team will be selling tickets on the concourse at the Lady Tigers’ basketball game on Thursday against Tennessee. Tickets may also be purchased in advance by calling the CHAMPS/Life Skills office at (225) 578-7402.
The doors will open to the Bo Campbell Auditorium in the Cox Communications Center at 6 p.m. on Sunday night. Acts will feature student-athletes from most of the men’s and women’s athletics teams and include singing, rapping, juggling, dancing and several comedy skits.
DesOrmeaux is a goalkeeper on the women’s soccer team who was recently diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare form of malignant cancer. She completed her senior season last fall after starting in 50 of the Tigers’ 53 games in her career. In 2003 she was chosen the team’s defensive MVP and named to the All-Louisiana soccer team.
Currently undergoing chemotherapy at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, DesOrmeaux will later need surgery to remove the cancerous tumor. To help offset the extraordinary expense associated with her treatment, LSU has also established a donation fund at all Louisiana Bank One locations.
