BATON ROUGE — LSU sprinter Hazelann Regis added SEC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week accolades to her list of honors Tuesday when the conference office announced its weekly awards. For Regis, who was named the NCAA Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week Monday, it marks the second time this season she has received the conference honors.
The senior from St. Andrews, Grenada, was recognized for her efforts at the New York Armory Invitational over the weekend, where she was named the Female Collegiate Athlete of the Meet after clocking 51.62 seconds in the 400 meters to win the event in meet record time. The time, the second fastest in the world this season, ranks No. 1 in both the SEC and the NCAA to date.
In addition, the 2004 Olympic semifinalist helped the Lady Tigers to a second meet record in the 4×400-meter relay, anchoring the squad to a come from behind victory and an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 3:31.92. The time ranks as the best in the NCAA this season and the second fastest in Lady Tiger history.
The LSU track and field program returns to action this weekend when it travels to Nampa, Idaho for the Holiday Inn Team Invitational, Feb. 11-12.
