Regis Named NCAA Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week

BATON ROUGE — LSU sprinter Hazelann Regis was named the NCAA Division I Women’s Track and Field Athlete of the Week it was announced Monday by the United States Track Coaches Association.

Regis, a senior from St. Andrews, Grenada, was named the Armory Invitational’s Female Collegaite Athlete of the Meet Saturday after winning the 400 meters with a NCAA automatic and meet record time of 51.62. The time ranks as the fastest in the nation this season.

The 2004 Olympian also anchored the Lady Tigers to a come from behind victory in the 4×400-meter relay, helping teammates Brooklyn Morris, Neisha Bernard-Thomas and Deonna Lawrence clock an NCAA automatic qualifying and meet record time of 3:31.92.

The LSU track and field team returns to action this weekend, traveling to Nampa, Idaho, for the Holiday Inn Team Invitational, Feb. 11-12.
