BATON ROUGE — The 23rd-ranked LSU women’s tennis team (4-0) returns to action Sunday, traveling to Houston to face Rice (3-0) at 2 p.m.
The Lady Tigers are off to a 4-0 start after defeating in-state schools Centenary, UL-Lafayette, Southeastern and Southern. This is the eighth consecutive year they have opened at 4-0.
The Lady Tigers are yet to lose a set in singles play. They have also not allowed an opponent closer than 8-5 in doubles competition.
LSU owns a 4-2 record over the Lady Owls, the last meeting resulting in a 6-1 Lady Tigers victory last season.
Rice is also undefeated on the season. They have recorded three wins, including an upset victory over Maryland last weekend.
“It’s going to be a tough match,” coach Tony Minnis said. “They upset Maryland last week and we can expect a battle against us. We just need to play with the same intensity and focus.”
This marks the first of a two-match Texas road trip. LSU will face Houston on Tuesday before coming back to Baton Rouge for two home matches.
