BATON ROUGE — For the fourth straight week the Lady Tigers remain at No. 2 in the national track rankings, while the Tigers slip one spot to No. 7 according to the latest Trackwire 25, released Tuesday.
Tennessee continues its hold on the No. 1 position in the women’s poll with 49 points. LSU is a close second with 46 points, while Stanford (36) and Florida (35) follow in third and fourth respectively. Texas and BYU stand in a two-way tie for fifth this week with 31 points each.
Arkansas continues to dominate the men’s standings, holding onto the No. 1 position for a fourth straight week with 73 points. Michigan remains at No. 2 with 40 points and Indiana is third with 32 points. Texas and Wisconsin are tied at No. 4 with 28 points apiece, while the Tigers sit just two spots out of the top five with 26 points this week.
Individually, LSU quartermilers Kelly Willie and Hazelann Regis and sprinter Ashley Owens hold onto their No. 1 rankings. Willie is listed as the top men’s 400 meter runner in the country for the fourth consecutive week, while Regis garners the women’s accolade for the second time.
Both Willie and Regis are also members of LSU’s 4×400 relays that are each ranked No. 1 in both the men’s and women’s polls once again.
Owens maintained her position atop the women’s 60 meters standings after winning her third straight race at the Bayou Bengal Invitational last weekend.
Both the Tiger and Lady Tiger track and field teams return to action this weekend when they travel to New York City for the Armory Invitational, Feb. 4-5.
