Fifteen Tiger Seniors Prepare for Final Two Home Meets

BATON ROUGE — Fifteen LSU swimmers and divers will officially compete at the LSU Natatorium one last time, as the Tigers host Rice, Houston, Delta State and UL-Monroe in a pair of double-dual meets this weekend.

The LSU women (1-6) will face off against Rice and Houston at 4 p.m. on Friday. The meet will feature 13 events, including the 400 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay. Diving will take place at events six and 11, respectively.

The LSU men (0-6) will not compete on Friday, but will close out the dual-meet season along with the women on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Delta State and UL-Monroe. Both meets are part of Super Tiger Weekend, which will feature 14 events in three days on the LSU campus. The swimming and diving teams are one of nine teams competing at home on the weekend.

The Tigers enter this weekend after completing a four-meet road trip against three nationally-ranked opponents. Last time out, LSU was swept by No. 7/16 Texas A&M in College Station last Saturday. The men were led by freshman Miko Malberg, who delivered the most impressive performance of his career during the two-day stretch. Malberg was victorious in four events and helped the Tigers to a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay at TCU.

Diver Jessica Wantz once again paced the LSU women, running her winning streak to eight consecutive events. She has swept diving events in the last four meets and will look to continue the streak as she competes in the final two meets of her dual career.

Joining Wantz to be honored during Senior Day events on Saturday are Margaret Beadle, Bethany Cottingham, Margot Gathings, Alice Hardesty, Lauren Harvey, Margaret Anne Moore and Lindsay Staak . Seven men will also be recognized for their achievements, including Justin Boyes, Leon Cannizzaro, Christian Clausen, Ryan Cochran, Myles Jaynes, Jan Minartz and Jared Strecker.

Following this weekend’s two meets, LSU will prepare for the Southeastern Conference Championships, which get underway with men’s and women’s diving on Friday, Feb. 11. The swimmers will compete in their portion beginning Wednesday, Feb. 16 at Gainesville, Fla.
