BATON ROUGE — LSU’s Hazelann Regis was named the SEC Women’s Runner of the Week it was announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Running in her first 400 meter race of the season, the senior from St. Andrew’s, Grenada, automatically qualified to the NCAA Indoor Championships in the event after clocking a meet-winning time of 52.02 Saturday at the Razorback Invitational. The time ranks as best in SEC and the NCAA this season.
Regis, the school record holder in the indoor 400 meters, is a seven-time All-American that helped the Lady Tigers to a national title in the 4×400-meter relay in 2004.
The LSU track and field team returns to action Friday when it hosts the Bayou Bengal Invitational at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
