BATON ROUGE — LSU’s men’s and women’s track and field teams are holding steady in the national rankings this week as the Lady Tigers remain at No. 2 and the Tigers stay at sixth, according to the latest Trackwire 25 released Tuesday.
The SEC holds down the top three spots in the women’s standings as Tennessee comes in at No. 1 for a third straight week with 51 points. The Lady Tigers are a close second with 47 points and Florida is third with 41 points. Texas, Stanford and Michigan stand in a three-way tie for fourth with 31 points each.
In the men’s poll, the top five remained unchanged from a week ago. Arkansas (79) leads the pack, followed by Michigan (39), Indiana (34), Florida (31) and Texas (29). The Tigers sit just three points outside of the top five this week, tying Florida State with 26 points.
In the individual events, LSU has three athletes and two relay teams ranked No. 1 in the nation this week.
Junior Kelly Willie and senior Hazelann Regis top the men’s and women’s 400 meter standings, respectively. Willie was the NCAA runner-up to Olympic gold medalist Jeremy Wariner in the event a year ago. Regis currently owns the nation’s top time in the open quarter after clocking 52.02 at last week’s Razorback Invitational.
Both Willie and Regis are also members of LSU’s top-ranked men’s and women’s 4×400-meter relay teams.
In addition, freshman Ashley Owens maintains her No. 1 ranking in the 60-meter dash for a third consecutive week.
Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers return to action Friday, when they host the Bayou Bengal Invitational at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
